Best Practice Tariff
A new Best Practice Tariff has been introduced in order to improve the care provided to children with Diabetes at their local clinic. If the requirements are met, the clinic will receive around £3000 per child per year instead of the current figure of around £500. This sounds excellent except for the fact that if the tariff is not met, the clinic will lose their existing funding. Without funding, the clinic could not run and children with Diabetes would have to attend another Hospital in the area, possibly York or Goole. Since the local Hospital Trust has a ban on recruiting new staff and our clinic does not have enough staff to meet the ratios brought in by the tariff, it seems impossible to achieve this target by April 2013. If the other Hospitals cannot meet these targets, it seems likely that they would suffer the same fate. If this were to happen, there would be no clinic available for our children or, at best. it would involve a 40 mile round trip. We can influence this decision by writing to both out MP's and to the Head of the Hospitals Trust to express our concern. We have prepared a standard letter for you to fill in and send to your MP and another one to send to the Hospitals Trust. Simply download them here and insert your name and any comments you may have about the situation and send it to both of them.
The Group will also be writing to the Comissioners of Hull and east Yorkshire Hospitals as representatives of all the parents who attend the group to express your concerns.
