News
New Machine at Clinic
The Clinic now has a new machine which can download readings from your Blood Glucose meter. This obviously saves time and allows the Nurses to help you control your Diabetes better. Don't forget to take your meter with you next time you go to the clinic.
Easter Fayre at Sainsbury's
A big thank you goes out to all who helped or brought buns or Tombola prizes. We could not have done it without your help. Well done everyone.
Retinal Screening
Following the recent visit by the Retinal Screening team to the Group, we would like to remind parents that all children over 12 need Retinal Screening. It is a painless process involving taking a picture of the Retina at the back of the eye. The child simply looks into a device, there is a flash of light and all is done. All People with Diabetes need Retinal Screening once a year. If you have not been contacted within the last year, you should contact your G.P. who can arrange an appointment for you.
Disability Living Allowance
Many Parents are reporting to us that they have had their DLA stopped on renewal. Obviously, this benefit is awarded to help your Child cope with Diabetes, so why is the Benefits Agency refusing it to children who have been awarded it in the past?
If you need any help filling in the form, contact a Committee member or check out the advice on Diabetes UK's own website.>
Follow the links listed at the bottom of the page to get help in filling in your DLA form.
Emergency Box
We now have an Emergency Box containing test strips, sharps etc. If you run out and simply cannot get hold of supplies, contact us and we will arrange to meet you somewhere to help out. Remember, though that we are all volunteers, so a call at 3 in the morning asking for test strips may not be answered, but a phone call at 8 will almost certainly get a response. This is not an alternative to ordering supplies from you GP, Just a way of helping out if you have, say, run out of strips and the Doctor tells you it will take 48 hours. What's in the box?>
Poster Competition
The poster competition to design a poster about the group was won by Olivia Astley. The poster will be displayed in Doctors Surgeries, Pharmacies and the Hospital to try and make people aware of the Group. Well done Olivia
